As well as being a fun-filled event, the Chiddingfold Village Fete plays a vital role in supporting local organisations through fundraising. Despite the fete only being open for one afternoon a year, the impact of the funds raised by the event for local clubs, societies and charities is felt throughout the year.
Sponsorship is a key fundraising activity for the fete team and we are grateful that Better Green is a return sponsor of the fete. In the second of a series of Q&As with our Gold Sponsors, we asked Dee Parsons, Group CEO - Sustinability & Outreach Director at Better Green, a few questions to find out a bit more about Better Green and the connection the business has with the local community.
Q: Dee, tell us a little about Better Green and what the business does.
A: We run a number of businesses across live events, event overlay and infrastructure, refurbishment/build projects, and live theatre production. Between them, we design and deliver everything from festivals and brand activations to live experiences, and refurbishment works in live environments. I also DJ which Chiddingfold is truly my most supportive and core fan base, and I love them all for that!
Q: How long have you lived in and around Chiddingfold?
A: We have lived in Chiddingfold for almost 10 years now.
Q: What do you really like about Chiddingfold?
A: What makes Chiddingfold special is completely down to the people. We are very like-minded here, we all love the same things mostly a party! People genuinely care about where they live and invest their time into the village and each other. Whether it is supporting local events, Friday nights at the pub or cricket club, helping neighbours, or rallying around when support is needed, people always show up. Always.
We may be biased, but having lived in many places across the UK and abroad, Chiddingfold feels different. It has real community that is increasingly rare. There is something very special about collectively protecting and nurturing the kind of village we all want to live in and raise our children in.
Q: Why do you sponsor the Chidd Fete?
A: We sponsor the fete because we genuinely love where we live. Supporting local events helps protect and strengthen the community spirit that makes Chiddingfold what it is. These events create memories for families, bring people together, and help support local organisations and causes that matter to the village. It is always an easy yes.
Q: What is your favourite activity at the fete?
A: It has to be the coconut shy - we love the competitiveness of it!
Q: What is your favourite place to visit in and around Chiddingfold?
A: We love the ancientness and beauty of central Chiddingfold which carries an energy and this seems to seep into our family-run pubs. They are all the true heartbeats of the village - each one unique, full of character, and the characters that frequent them, and hold so so many wonderful memories, from birthdays, to impulsive Friday nights, to the singalong at Christmas, and even some even sad and celebratory times, what more can you ask of your chosen home.
We first walked into The Crown with children when they were tiny, our son just a few months old. Now Grace, our eldest, works at The Crown alongside her local college life. That sense of continuity, familiarity, and community connection is incredibly special, and something we never take for granted, it’s a natural order of life.
One story probably says everything about village life here. When our son was a toddler, and we lived on The Green he disappeared for what felt like the longest 10 minutes of our lives. After frantically searching everywhere, we found him sat outside The Crown with his little rucksack on, patiently waiting for the pub to open!
The pubs, our friends homes, when people visit, they feel it, its tangible. We have all created that, we have each other's backs always. We should be, and we are, very proud to call Chiddingfold a home we share with you all.
